U.S. Senate Debate public events and opportunities

Apr 18, 2016

California voters who want to learn more about the candidates vying to replace Sen. Barbara Boxer have many options for engaging in the U.S. Senate Debate that will take place April 25 at University of the Pacific.

  • Pacific’s Speech and Debate Team, ranked No. 7 in the country, will host its own version of the debate for U.S. Senate in the Janet Leigh Theatre on campus from 4:30-5:45 p.m. Debate team members will play the roles of the five candidates.
  • Community members are invited to a watch party in the Janet Leigh Theatre from 6-7:30 p.m.
  • Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law is hosting what it bills as the “Super Bowl of Debate Watch Parties” in Northwest Hall room S-4/S-5 on the Sacramento Campus. The watch party will start at 6 p.m., preceded by a primer on federal issues from 5:30-6 p.m.

Leading up to the Monday night debate, pacific.edu/debate is the place to go for information on the five candidates scheduled to appear, debate details, and more.

The debate, co-sponsored by University of the Pacific, KCRA 3 and the San Francisco Chronicle, will be broadcast live 6-7:30 p.m. on KCRA 3 (Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto), KSBW (Santa Cruz-Monterey-Salinas), KNTV (San Jose), KCOP (Los Angeles) and KGTV (San Diego).

The event will also be live streamed on the Pacific website beginning at 6 p.m. and on the university’s Facebook page.

People can also follow along on social media using hashtag #CASenDebate. Pacific’s multimedia page is the place to go to download a Facebook cover photo, Twitter header photo, or a “Twibbon.”
