Copyright Compliance

Copyright Compliance (HEOA & DMCA Compliance)

Congress has passed legislation with the Higher Education Act designed to reduce the illegal downloading of copyrighted works through P2P file sharing on college networks.  This legislation requires colleges to 1) use technology based deterrents, 2) establish mechanisms for educating its community about appropriate and inappropriate use of copyrighted materials, 3) have procedures for handling unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material, including disciplinary procedures, and 4) have procedures for periodically reviewing the effectiveness of the plans to combat the unauthorized distribution of copyrighted materials by users of the institutions network.

The Regulations

The text of HR 4137 can be found here.
