Greg Walters, a human resources professional with broad experience in higher education, industry, and government, was appointed the new Assistant Vice President for Human Resources at University of the Pacific in February 2016. Walters comes to Pacific from the University of Idaho, where he served as Executive Director of Human Resources. Under his leadership, Human Resources at the University of Idaho transformed from being solely transactional into a strong supporter of the Institution's strategic direction. Walters' experience also includes serving as the Assistant Manager of Human Resources at the State of Oregon Employment Department, as Assistant Vice President for Human Resources at Lewis & Clark College, and in various human resources positions at Seattle University and the Metropolitan Building Maintenance Company, also in Seattle. Walters has held numerous roles in the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources, including serving on the national board for two years and as treasurer. He is certified as a senior professional in human resources through the Human Resources Certification Institute. He also has extensive continuing education in human resources and academic administration, with emphases on legal compliance, risk management, strategic planning, change management, communication, leadership development and all technical human resources areas.
Key Areas of Responsibility
In his new role, Walters is working to advance Pacific's strategic objectives through enhancing the workplace environment, strengthening employee development and diversity, developing resources and internal expertise to help faculty and staff succeed, among other important initiatives. Reporting to the Vice President for Business and Finance, and serving on the President's Cabinet, Walters oversees the university-wide Human Resource and Assessment, Training & Technology units.
