Tips on Filling out the FAFSA

First-time Undergraduate students who want to apply for financial aid for the 2012/2013 academic year complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Continuing Pacific students should instead complete the renewal FAFSA.

All students need to obtain or must possess a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to sign and submit your FAFSA electronically. If you are required to provide parent information on the FAFSA, your parent will also need a PIN.

FAFSA on the Web Worksheets are available at high schools and colleges throughout the U.S. and online on the FAFSA website. If you prefer a paper FAFSA, you may request one from the Federal Student Aid Information Center, 1-800-433-3243.

Reminder: The 2012-13 FAFSA requires 2011 U.S. tax return information.

Additional Tips

Name and Social Security Number

Enter your name and Social Security Number exactly as they appear on your Social Security card.

Degree or certificate

Unless you will be a graduate student, a professional Pharmacy student, or a fifth-year teaching credential student when you enter Pacific, indicate 1 (1st bachelor’s degree)

Grade level

Entering Freshmen: Indicate 0 (never attended college/first year undergraduate), even if you have college units earned while in high school.

Transfer Students (including freshmen attending another college or university in Fall 2012): Estimate your grade level at Pacific, counting transferable units, only.

Continuing Pacific students should indicate their projected grade level for Fall 2012 (i.e. counting in courses that will be completed at the end of Spring).

First bachelor’s degree before July 1, 2012?

If you will not have a four-year college degree when you enter Pacific, indicate No.

Highest school your father and mother completed

Answer about both your birth parents (or adoptive parents).

Legal Guardian

The definition of legal guardianship does not include your parents, even if they were appointed by a court to be your guardians. You are also not considered a legal guardian of yourself. By answering "Yes" it means you can provide a copy of the court's decision giving you this legal status.

Student’s financial information

All students must fill out this section, even if you don’t have any income, savings, or investments and do not file a tax return. If an item does not apply to you, enter 0.
