Basic Media Training Workshop

The Office of Marketing and Communications at University of the Pacific offers Media Training workshops for faculty and staff who are interested in sharing their expertise and achievements with the general public through the media.

In an interactive, small-group setting, participants will learn what to do when a reporter calls, how to prepare for a successful interview, how to develop concise and compelling messages, and how to help ensure that news media convey those messages. The workshops include critiqued on-camera exercises.

Two instructors lead the sessions, which are limited to six participants. The instructors are Claudia Morain, director of communications at University of the Pacific, and Kristen Simoes, an independent video producer and reporter. Morain has worked in higher education public relations for more than a decade, and has led basic media training workshops for more than three years. She has helped dozens of faculty members and university leaders prepare for successful print, radio and TV interviews. Simoes, during her years as a reporter for KCRA-TV, has interviewed faculty and university administrators on topics ranging from scientific discoveries to important new programs and initiatives. She has provided media training to a variety of corporate clients.

Half-day sessions are offered in the morning and afternoon. To register, email dyang@pacific.edu with the date of the workshop you'd like to attend. Please indicate your second-choice date as well. Enrollment is limited to six participants per session.
