Standing Reports:

Gilbertson announced that the budget came out stronger than anticipated. The President created a special fund, "Reserve Fund for Distinctive Programs", primarily for academic use. He also mentioned that UC Merced will be opening this fall and may have an impact on enrollment. Brodnick reported that to date, enrollment for fall 2005 is on track.

Jacobson informed the Committee of a disturbing new practice called, "chiefing". Students write all over the body of a student who has had too much to drink to the point of passing out. It is very concerning.

Current Agenda Items:

MVP Planning Process

A summary of the MVP Planning Process was distributed by Gilbertson which outlined the process from April/May 2005, with a copy of the draft given to the Academic Council and the Regents for review, through October 2007, with the WASC accreditation review. The real kickoff, however, will be September 10, 2005 with a University Kickoff Planning Retreat which will include Cabinet, office directors, deans, faculty, staff, student, and alumni representatives. An Academic Retreat is planned for October 8, 2005 and a Board meeting will also be held in the same month.
