Not Present: Brodnick, Chi, Ensign, King

Guests: Dr. Robert Christoffersen and Dr. Roy Bergstrom from the Dental School

Minutes: Minutes of the February 5 meeting were reviewed and approved.

Standing Reports:

Gilbertson decided to forego any standing reports and move directly to the Dental School presentation presented by Christoffersen and Bergstrom.

Dental School FY05 Plan and Budget

Bergstrom distributed a handout and Christoffersen discussed the contents.

The goals of the Dental School are as follows:

  • Commitment to Excellence
  1. Campaign
  2. Educational Outcomes
  3. Comprehensive Curriculum Review
  4. Applicant Pool
  • Continued Upgrade of Facilities
  • Reduce Tuition Dependency and Contain Cost of Dental Education
  • Explore and Develop New Markets in Professional Development
  • Grow Patient Pool to Ensure Optimum Clinical Experience and Learning
  • Faculty Recruitment, Retention, and Development

Christoffersen noted that the applicant pool at the Dental School is up by 20% and that the acceptance rate is also up by 10%. On January 5 the first class of the Hygiene program began with 25 students. Their first 18 months of the program are here on the Stockton Campus and then the students continue and finish in San Francisco.

Christoffersen also made mention of the "Golf" Clinics in which many of the students participate and donate time to care for kids. There are three of these clinics in the Stockton area: Stockton Dental Care Center, San Joaquin General Hospital and St. Raphael's Clinic.

Pacific Net

Gilbertson summarized a few key points.

  • The need to invest in hardware and software
  • More expertise at the security level
  • Network improvement

Gilbertson proposed that a solution to the security problem (viruses and worms) might be to isolate the student network from the administration network.

Customer Relationship Management

Gilbertson distributed a memo from Tom Rajala regarding CRM. He also presented a proposal for a CRM Planning Group.

Sina felt that there was no need to establish another group.

Gilbertson stated that a new portal is the most important factor regarding CRM. Cisco technology is an option. CRM would help personalize student service. The new portal would allow Pacific to develop an automated audit system online and thereby achieve it's potential in reaching transfer students, having more quality time for the student and professor and making parent transactions easier and more accessible. 

 

Gilbertson handed out a description of the University-side Cross-Cultural Training proposed by SIS.

He also distributed a list of Priorities for the next 3 to 5 years from the President. They are:

  • Identify and promote hallmarks of teaching, scholarship and learning excellence in the College of the Pacific and in each professional school
  • Expand the commitment to diversifying students, faculty and staff
  • Develop and implement marketing plans to emphasize national and international student recruitment and to elevate institutional visibility
  • Advance the integration of information technology into curricular, co-curricular and administrative programs
  • Refine and implement a comprehensive facilities and maintenance plan, with special attention to academic buildings, residence halls, and recreation space
  • Implement a cost-effective enrollment plan that emphasizes selectivity and improved retention
  • Increase financial support for endowments and facilities
  • Improve alumni and annual giving
