Call to Order: 2:09

Present: Brodnick, Byl, Brennan, Chi, Frederick, Gilbertson, King, Kreitzman, Perro, Royce-Davis, Sexton, Sina, Spreer

Not Present: Cavanaugh, Fries, Ensign, Lackey, Miller

Minutes: Minutes of the August 30 meeting were reviewed and approved.

Standing Reports:

Perro announced that enrollment budget targets have been met. Budget Assumptions and Planning Guidelines for FY07-08 have been distributed.

Gilbertson announced that Pacific currently has 7 students from the Hurricane Katrina disaster area attending the Stockton campus and 1 at the Law School.

Current Agenda Items:

Program Review Changes

According to Brodnick, the majority of participants involved in the program review retreats were favorable to change.  The Council of Deans reviewed four strong options for potential change.

  • Decentralized assessment, centralized evaluation
  • Decentralized assessment, external review, centralized evaluation
  • Decentralized assessment, Dual track professional-liberal arts evaluation
  • Decentralized assessment, fully externally evaluation

From this, three options were defined and articulated; who is involved, how often, and how changes are made. Another option was to move from a 7 to 10 year cycle. Members on the committee will serve a three-year term. Departments will be directly accountable to the Dean/VP and the Dean/VPs will have a prominent role. Academic Council will review the options next.

2008-2015 University Plan

A retreat was held on Saturday, 9/13 that focused on the University Plan. Gilbertson presented the value statements derived from the retreat of academic leadership this summer. More work will be done with these as we draft the next University Plan.

CSEQ Comparative Analysis

Brodnick presented the CSEQ.  This was the second administration of the survey here at Pacific. A total of 750 students completed the survey. Five groups were compared: academic unit, ethnicity, gender, class, and GPA level.  The results were also compared across two administrations and to normative data.
