According to the Faculty Handbook, 10.5 Honorary Degrees, persons nominated for honorary degrees should have made outstanding contributions to this University or society at large.
The University Awards Committee solicits nominations for honorary degrees from the University community and recommends candidates for honorary degrees to the Academic Council. Nominees may not be current employees of the university; nominees must not be informed of their nomination. The Academic Council reviews these candidates and advises the President concerning the awarding of the proposed degree. The President recommends candidates to the Board of Regents who award honorary degrees.Nominations are confidential throughout the process. The President informs persons who have been selected to receive an honorary degree.
