Pacific's Assessment Conference 2017

Pacific's First Annual Assessment Conference, Learning from Each Other, exemplified Pacific faculty and staff's deep commitment to our students' well-being and educational success. Held on March 30, the conference showcased seven different assessment projects that Pacific faculty, staff and students have conducted to improve students' learning, retention, and quality of life on campus.

Projects ranged from improving campus safety, improving expert-level reading skills, and enhancing leadership and critical thinking, to evaluating the impacts of exam software, improving success of students with disabilities, strengthening writing skills, and improving supervisor evaluations of students. The well attended event was a successful collaboration between faculty, staff and students on the San Francisco and Stockton campuses. The videoconference included lunch at both sites followed by live presentations and discussions, plus a poster presentation on assessment research by one of our graduate students. 

Dr. Kirk Land, associate professor of Biological Sciences, and Dr. Justin Low, associate professor of Educational and School Psychology in the Gladys L. Benerd School of Education, chaired the conference. It was co-sponsored by the University Assessment Committee and the Office for Strategy and Educational Effectiveness in partnership with the Center for Teaching and Learning.

Multi-year Improvements in Campus Safety Based on Assessment Results, presented by Mike Belcher, executive director of Public Safety.

Redesigning Field Supervisor Evaluations Based on Results of a Factor Analysis, presented by Dr. Amy Scott Brown, associate professor of Educational and School Psychology, Dr. Justin Low, associate professor of Educational and School Psychology, and Amy Burns, graduate student, all of the Gladys L. Benerd School of Education.
