I. Convening of Meeting and Approval of Minutes: The I.P.C. Committee was convened by Provost Gilbertson. The minutes of June 7, 1999 were approved as corrected.

II. Law School Dean Caplan and Business Officer Evans. Dean Caplan attended the first part of the I.P.C. meeting. The Dean discussed law school priorities and challenges as described in a draft of the Dean’s "Notes Toward a Long-Term Agenda, Revised," which will be submitted for consideration and amendment to the law school faculty in August. Gary Evans, the law school business officer, also attended the first part of the meeting. Mr. Evans discussed the law school budget and projections for future budgets.

After presentations by Dean Caplan and Gary Evans, the Committee toured the McGeorge campus.

III. Announcements: The University administrative retreat will be held on August 11, 1999. The I.P.C. retreat is scheduled for August 28, 1999.

IV. The Committee discussed the document titled: "Planning and Budget Assumptions and Recommendations for FY 2000 and 2001: Proposed Revisions--Draft 2--6/8/99." Recommended changes in the text will be distributed for further consideration at a future I.P.C. meeting.

The Committee continued its discussion of funding for two grant officer positions. As discussed in Patrick Cavanaugh’s memo to the Finance Committee dated May 24, 1999, "the University does not have adequate resources allocated for effective pre-award and post-award support for grants and contracts." I.P.C. has for some time viewed the grant officer positions as a high priority. Dr. Gilbertson discussed the importance of concrete performance objectives for grant officers.

The next I.P.C. meeting is scheduled for June 21, 1999, Taylor Conference Room.
