New Muir Artwork Unveiled in Library
A mural-sized photograph of Muir Woods by artist Stephen Joseph was unveiled Saturday as part of University of the Pacific's Presidential Inaugural Series in honor of President Pamela A. Eibeck's first year in office.
The work was hung on the second floor of the William Knox Holt Memorial Library on the Stockton campus, home to the Muir Papers, a collection of original drawings and writings of naturalist John Muir.
The photograph was created by Stephen Joseph, a Bay Area artist who also is the "Centennial Photographer" for Muir Woods National Monument in Marin County. Some of his work can be found online at http://www.stephenjosephphoto.com/muirwoods.html.
The art installation was commissioned by Pacific's Powell Scholars and the Visual Arts Department. The Powell Scholars Program is the University's top merit scholarship program. Powell Scholars receive substantial tuition, and also funds to support research projects, international study, and leadership development.Pictured: President Pamela A.
