Pacific Women's Water Polo: Tawarahara Selected March Competitor of the Month

Apr 7, 2010

Just two weeks after earning her first Big West Player of the Week award for the 2010 season, junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawai'i) of Pacific's women's water polo team has been selected as Pacific's March Competitor of the Month.

Tawarahara was voted the Big West Player of the Week on March 24, after she tallied nine goals, two assists and three steals in a three game span. In Pacific's 10-9 double over time loss to No. 16 Indiana, Tawarahara found the back of the net three times while her assist to junior Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) at the 2:28 point helped the Tigers tie the game at eight goals apiece, sending the contest into double overtime. During the Pacific Invite on March 20, Tawarahara finished the day with six goals which included two goals against Harvard and all four of Pacific's goals against No. 3 California.

During the month of March Tawarahara scored a total of 24 goals for Tigers in 11 out of 12 contests, which included eight contests in which she scored multiple goals. Tawarahara completed the hat trick against Wagner (March 6), Whitter (March 7), Fresno-Pacific (March 13) and No. 16 Indiana (March 16). She ended the month with four assists, 11 steals and six drawn ejections.

Stacking up against conference competition, Tawarahara is currently third in goals with 55 and is averaging 2.04 goals per game.

"Dara is a true competitor in every sense of the word and as a team captain I am excited to see her lead our team into conference play," said Head Coach Megan Thomson. "Dara's stats speak for themselves but it is her commitment both in the class and in the pool that drives her success. Dara inspires others around her to excel at both and exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete."
