Pacific Women's Water Polo: Defense Key in No. 16 Pacific's 6-5 Win Over Long Beach State

Apr 11, 2010

After a tough battle in the pool, Pacific's women's water polo team came away with the 6-5 victory over Long Beach State. With the win the Tigers improved to 20-9 (2-1 Big West) while the 49ers fell to 7-18 (0-3 Big West) on the year.

The Tigers were led by junior Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.) who tallied two goals in the contest while freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) finished the day with 12 saves in the cage for Pacific.

"This game came down to the defense. We hung in there and played sold defense," said Head Coach Megan Thomson on the Tiger defense. "We created a lot of opportunities and drew a lot of ejections with Mandy King leading the way with five drawn ejections and an earned five-meter. We were unable to convert the ejections today but our defense got us the win. It's great to come away with a conference win and our twentieth win of the season."

The Tigers will wrap-up Big West regular season action in Pacific's final home stand April 17-18 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool against Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara.
