Pacific Women's Water Polo: No. 13 UC Irvine Too Much For No. 16 Pacific, Tigers Fall 12-6

Pacific's women's water polo team dropped a 12-6 decision to No. 13 UC Irvine. With the loss the Tigers fell to 19-9 (1-1 Big West) while the Anteaters improved to 10-13 (1-2 Big West) on the season.

UC Irvine jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter, notching back-to-back goals at the 7:35 and 6:40 marks but freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) tallied a goal to cut the Anteaters lead to one with 6:00 remaining on the clock. The Anteaters closed out the quarter notching two additional goals to take the 4-1 lead.

In the second frame junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawai'i) found the back of the net with 5:19 left in the half to make it a 4-2 contest however UC Irvine countered at the 4:21 mark to regain the three point advantage. Junior Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.) tallied Pacific's third goals of the contest at the 3:42 spot but the Anteaters again responded with 2:24 left to play to take the 6-3 lead. Junior Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) put the Tigers within two with her goal at the 1:37 spot but UC Irvine closed out the quarter tallying a goal 36 seconds later for the 7-4 lead entering the half.

The Anteaters kicked off the third quarter scoring consecutive goals at the 4:54 and 2:49 marks to take the 9-4 lead but Tawarahara found the back of the net for the second time in the contest at the 1:30 spot to put the Tigers within four of UC Irvine. UC Irvine took the 10-5 lead with 0:40 left in the quarter however Myles responded with her second goal of the game 11 seconds later, making it a 10-6 contest.

Pacific's offense was held scoreless in the final frame while the Anteaters sealed the win with two additional goals at the 6:18 and 5:24 marks.

Freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) and junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawai'i) tallied two goals apiece for the Tigers. Freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) recorded 10 saves in the cage for Pacific.

Pacific continues Big West competition Sunday, April 11 at Long Beach State with a 12 p.m. scheduled start time.
