Women's Water Polo: Tigers Reclaim No. 16 Spot in CWPA Poll, Kick Off Big West Action

Apr 1, 2010
Pacific's women's water polo team kicks off Big West action this weekend at Chris Kjeldsen against No. 18 UC Davis.

In the last meeting between the Aggies and the Tigers at the NorCal Invite, Pacific jumped out to a 2-0 lead on back-to-back goals from freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) and junior Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas). But UC Davis notched four goals in the third quarter to take the 8-7 lead entering at the end of the quarter. In the final frame junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawai'i) tallied her first goal of the season to tie the game at eight goals apiece with 7:27 remaining on the clock while freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) ended the fourth quarter recording five saves in the cage. The Aggies notched back-to-back goals at the start the second overtime period for the two point advantage but the Tigers' efforts fell short as Myles scored Pacific's final goal at the 1:36 point for a 10-9 final score.

This past weekend the Tigers dropped a pair of decisions to No. 12 UC Santa Barbara (8-5) and No. 13 UC Irvine (9-6) at the Gaucho Invite in Santa Barbara, Calif. Despite the two losses to ranked opponents, Pacific reclaimed the No. 16 slot in the latest poll released by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) after spending three weeks at No. 17.

The Tigers host No. 18 UC Davis on Saturday, April 3 at 12 p.m. followed by Fresno-Pacific at 3 p.m.
