    Pacific Mens' Basketball - UCSB 61, Pacific 48

    The Pacific men's basketball team was defeated by UC Santa Barbara by a score of 61-48 on Thursday, February 4. With the loss the Tigers fall to 14-7 overall and 7-2 in the Big West. The Gauchos improved to 12-8 and 7-3 in the Big West.

    The Tigers got off to a rough start offensively against UCSB, falling behind 14-2 after the first eight minutes. Pacific cut the lead to nine a few times in the half, but UCSB took a 15 point lead before junior Terrell Smith (Federal Way, Wash.) a 30-footer at the end of the half to make it 34-22 at the break. The Gauchos got 16 first half points from Orlando Johnson. He led the Gauchos with 28 in the game.

    Pacific held UCSB to two missed shots and three turnovers in the first five possessions of the second half, and were able to cut the lead to eight (34-26) with 17 minutes to go. A 10-1 spurt took the Gauchos' lead to 17 (44-27), their largest lead of the game. Junior Royal Edwards (Sacramento, Calif.) hit a pair of three pointers in a 10-3 run to cut the lead to 10 (47-37) with 9:33 left. The Tigers would not get closer than nine (51-42) the rest of the way, as UCSB picked up the victory.

    Freshman Allen Huddleston (Merced, Calif.) led the Tigers with 10 points. Edwards tied his career-high with six points. Pacific shot a season-low 29.4 percent from the field, and just 22.2 percent from three-point range. The Tigers and Gauchos each had 18 turnovers in the game, with Pacific out-scoring UCSB 16-9 in points off of turnovers. Tiger scoring leader Sam Willard (Pierre, S.D.) scored just two points, but led Pacific with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
