Pacific Men's Tennis: No. 108 Gramma Named Big West Tennis Athlete of the Week

After going 2-0 in singles play last week, junior No. 108 Artem Gramma (Krivoj Roj, Ukraine) of the Pacific mens tennis team was named Big West Tennis Athlete of the Week for the period ending Jan. 31. The two wins make the 5-9 right hander 9-3 overall on the year in singles matches.

 

Playing out of the No. 1 position in Pacifics first week of matches in 2010, Gramma upset No. 46 Fresno States Mirko Zapletal 6-1, 6-0 on Jan. 27 before defeating Big West rival Nick Lopez of UC Davis 6-3, 6-4 on Jan. 30. Gramma was the Tigers only match win in the loss to Fresno State. But he also picked up a doubles win partnered with newcomer Ivan Garcia-Castro (Guarulhos, Sao Paulo, Brazil) over UC Davis Connor Coates and Toki Sherbakov.

 

Pacific will look to Gramma to continue to excel as the team gears up for a 9-game road trip starting with San Francisco on Feb. 12.
