    Women's Water Polo: No. 9 Hartwick Comes Back In the Fourth to Defeat Pacific, 10-9

    In the second game of the day Pacific's women's water polo team was defeated by No. 9 Hartwick, 10-9. With the loss the Tigers fall to 3-4 on the season while the Hawks improve to 8-1 on the year.

    In the first frame Pacific jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the 6:26 mark on a goal from junior Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Siann Ells-Tewhiu of Hartwick tied the game at one goal apiece with 5:12 left in the half, but the Tigers regained the one point advantage 17 seconds later when Mandy King (Benicia, Calif.) found the back of the net. Geck notched her second goal of the quarter with 2:53 on the clock to put the Tigers up 3-1. For the second time in the quarter the Hawks cut Pacific's lead to one, tallying a goal at the 2:41 spot. Junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) notched back-to-back goals 39 seconds apart to make it a 5-2 contest. With 1:01 left in the quarter, Hartwick was able to find the back of the goal to cut Pacific's lead to two. Junior Catherine Collett (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) closed out the quarter notching a goal with :15 on the clock.

    The Hawks scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter at the 5:53 and :53 spots to make it a 6-5 game. Geck scored Pacific's lone goal of the quarter with :34 left in the half to put the Tigers up by two.

    Trailing 7-5 at the start of third quarter, Hartwick scored two consecutive goals 16 seconds apart to tie the game at seven goals apiece. Pacific regained its two point lead at the 4:37 and 3:02 spots on goals from freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) and junior Siobhan Larsen (Mundelein, Ill.).

    Pacific led 9-7 at the start of the fourth quarter but was held scoreless by the Hawks defense. The Tigers were unable to maintain the two point lead as Hartwick notched three goals in its fourth quarter comeback to defeat Pacific.


    Offensively the Tigers were led by junior Bridget Geck(Huntington Beach, Calif.) who notched three goals in the contest. Freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) had seven saves in the cage for Pacific.

    Pacific continues action on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 10:45 a.m. against Colorado State.
