    Pacific Women's Water Polo: No. 16 Pacific Tops California Baptist, 8-6

    The Pacific's women's water polo team defeated California Baptist, 8-6 on Friday, Feb. 26. With the win the Tigers improved to 8-4 on the season while the Lancers fell to 7-6 on the year.

    Junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) opened the first quarter notching a goal on a skip shot at the 5:42 mark to put Pacific up 1-0. Kylie Chevalier of California Baptist found the back of the net with a shot to the far post with 4:34 left on the clock to tie the game at one goal apiece. The Tigers regained the one point advantage at the 2:25 point on a goal from junior Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.), but the Lancers countered 15 seconds later with a goal from Petra Kovacs.

    California Baptist had its first lead of the game at the start of the second quarter with 6:21 on the clock to make it a 3-2 contest. Freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) tallied back-to-back goals at the 4:26 and 3:39 that gave Pacific the 4-3 lead. The Tigers expanded its lead to two as junior Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) scored a goal with 1:20 left in regulation. Myles struck again with her third goal in the quarter to make it a 5-3 game heading into the half.

    Both teams struggled to find the back of the net at the start of the third quarter until sophomore Allison Kosich (Stockton, Calif.) notched a goal on a backhand shot at the 3:23 point to put Pacific up by four. California Baptist's Kovacs notched back-to-back goals at the 2:06 mark and then again just before the quarter buzzer to make it a 7-5 game. 

    In the final frame junior Siobhan Larsen (Mundelein, Ill.) notched Pacific's final goal with 7:22 on the clock to extend the Tigers' lead to three. With 5:05 left in regulation Kylie Chevalier of California Baptist found the back of the net for an 8-6 final score.

    The Tigers were led by Myles who notched three goals it the contest. Freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) recorded 12 saves in the cage for Pacific.

    Pacific next returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 27 with two games at the Santa Clara Invitational.
