    Women's Water Polo: Tigers Defeat Cal State Monterey Bay, 14-7

    Pacific's women's water polo team defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 14-7. With the win the Tigers improve to 6-4 on the season while the Otters fall to 3-10 on the year.

    CSU Monterey Bay jumped out to an early 1-0 lead 12 seconds in to the first quarter. Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) tied the game at one goal apiece at the 6:33 mark. Pacific notched back-to-back goals from junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawai'i) and freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) at the 5:30 and 3:10 spots respectively to put the Tigers up 3-1. The Otters cut Pacific's lead to one with 2:44 left on the clock but Myles stuck again 17 seconds later to give the Tigers the two point advantage.

    In the second quarter Myles notched her third goal to make it a 5-2 game. The Otters notched a goal with 6:50 left in the half to cut Pacific's lead to three. Junior Allison King (Benicia, Calif.) and Katherine Biehle (Visalia, Calif.) scored back-to-back to give Pacific the four point advantage. Pacific gained the 8-3 when Tawarahara tallied her second goal of the game at the 3:00 mark. With 1:37 left in the half Katie Sowul of CSU Monterey Bay notched a goal to make it an 8-3 game but Tawarahara notched her third goal of the contest to give Pacific the six point lead.

    Entering the third quarter Pacific expanded its lead to eight on goals from Tawarahara and Myles at the 5:27 and 5:56 marks respectively while the Tiger defense held the Otters scoreless. In her final quarter of the contest freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) recorded two saves in the cage.

    Trailing 11-3 entering the final frame the Otters notched four consecutive goals to make it an 11-7 contest. The Tigers responded with two consecutive goals from Catherine Collett (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) at the 1:29 and :49 spots. Brittany Lloyd (Orinda, Calif.) closed out the game tallying a goal with :10 left on the clock to put Pacific up 14-7.


    The Tigers were led by Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) and Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) who notched four goals apiece in the contest. In the cage for Pacific freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) recorded seven saves thru the first three quarters while junior Kailee Bucknum (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded one save in the final quarter.


    Pacific continues action on Sunday, Feb. 21 at noon against Santa Clara in the 2010 home opener.
