    Women's Water Polo: Pacific's Offense Dominates Occidental; Tigers Pick Up 17-4 Victory

    Pacific's women's water polo team closed the Road Runner Invite with a 17-4 victory over Occidental. With the win the Tigers improve to 5-4 on the season while Occidental falls to 0-4 on the year.

    In the first quarter the Tiger offense wasted no time taking a 2-0 lead with freshmanJasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) notching back-to-back goals at the 7:42 and 5:26 marks. Occidental cut Pacific's lead to one at the 3:11 spot but junior Mandy King (Benicia, Calif.) put Pacific back up by two with :40 left in the quarter. With :05 left on the clock sophomore Allison Kosich (Stockton, Calif.) found the back of the net on a 5-meter penalty shot to give Pacific the 4-1 lead.

    The Tigers opened the second quarter with consecutive goals from junior Catherine Collett(Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and sophomore Katherine Biehle (Visalia, Calif.) at the 6:46 and 5:27 points respectively for the five point advantage. Occidental scored with 4:57 on the clock to make it a 6-2 game, but Kosich (Stockton, Calif.) countered 20 seconds later to put Pacific up 7-2. Occidental notched its second goal of the quarter at the 2:58 mark however Pacific answered with goals from Kosich and Collett to take a 9-3 lead entering the half.

    Pacific widened its lead to 11-3 at the start of the third quarter on goals from juniorsSiobhan Larsen (Mundelein, Ill.) and Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) at the 6:49 and 1:51 marks respectively. Occidental notched its final goal of the contest with 1:12 left in the quarter, making it an 11-4 game. Myles completed the hat trick at the :55 point to give the Tigers an eight point lead.

    In the final quarter the Tiger defense shutout Occidental while four Tigers found the back of the net. Biehle scored back-to-back goals at the 7:47 and 7:00 marks followed by a goal from Kosich at the 4:54 point. Freshman Nicole Vasco (Dana Point, Calif.) and junior Allison King (Benicia, Calif.) notched Pacific's final goals for a 17-4 final score.


    Offensively 10 Tigers notched goals with sophomore Allison Kosich (Stockton, Calif.) leading the way with four goals. In the cage for Pacific junior Kailee Bucknum (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded nine saves for the Tigers.

    The Tigers return to action Saturday, Feb. 20, in Seaside, Calif., to take on the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay. Pacific hosts Santa Clara in the home opener on Sunday, Feb. 21 at noon.
