Men's Swimming: Tigers suffer loss to UC Davis, 151-125
The men's 200 Medley Relay team, consisting of Kevin Byers (Puyallup, Wash.), Jonathan Alves (Davenport, Iowa), Chris Weber (Valencia, Calif.) and Steven Woods (Walnut Creek, Calif.) started the midday meet finishing in the third with a time of 1:38.40. In individual events, Woods picked up second place finishes in the 50 Free (21.59) and 100 Free (47.80). Also swimming the 50 Free was freshman Balazs Szabo (Budapest, Hungary) who touched the wall in 22.51 to finish fifth.
Aljaz Ojstersek (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and Zach Zlotoff (San Jose, Calif.) finished back to back in the 1650 Free for the third and fourth place spots with times of 16:26.44 and 16:33.54 respectively. In the 500 Free Ojstersek touched the wall in 4:47.88 to claim the number one spot. Rounding out the top four spots in the 500 Free were Bart Platow(Westport, Conn.) in second (4:49.68), Zlotoff in third (4:53.57) and Scott Tyler (Palo Cedro, Calif.)in fourth (4:53.85).
Senior Patrick Walton (Lodi, Calif.) had a time of 1:46.26 in the 200 Free for the fifth place finish. Danny Platow (Westport, Conn.) finished second behind Jimmy Fong of UC Davis in the 100 Back touching the wall in 55.24. Byers and Chris Berg (Chico, Calif.) finished fourth (56.04) and fifth (57.67) respectively.
In the 200 Back, Tyler Hannis (Santa Rosa, Calif.) finished third with a time of 1:56.12, while Danny Platow touched the wall in 2:02.30 to finish fifth. With his best finish of the day, David Hernandez(Chico, Calif.) completed the 100 Fly in 54.88 to come in first. Weber and Joe Orr (Fresno, Calif.) finished back to back helping the Tigers claim the top three spots in the event. Weber had the Tigers highest finish in the 100 Breast, touching the wall in 1:00.83 for the third place finish. Weber also claimed the number two spot in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:13.74 behind Walton who finished first with a time of 2:11.32.
RJ Barton (Modesto, Calif.) recorded a pair of first place finishes, with his first coming in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:58.87. Barton picked up his second first place finish in the 200 IM touching the wall in 1:57.25.
Pacific returns to action Saturday, Jan. 30, at Chris Kjeldsen Pool to face off against UC Santa Barbara.
