Pacific Women's Tennis: Goehl Named Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

    Jan 27, 2010
The Big West Conference announced Wednesday morning that Pacific freshman Christina Goehl (Karlsruhe, Germany) was named the Womens Tennis Athlete of the Week for the period ending Jan. 24. Goehl went 3-0 at the UNLV Quad-Match in singles play this past weekend to start her first spring season as a Tiger and earn the first conference honor awarded this spring.

Christina is a hard worker, said Head Coach Bob Chiene. She really deserves this award. Her win over UNLV was against the person playing above the No. 44 ranked athlete.

Competing in the No. 2 position for all three matches, she upset No. 41 UNLVs Nives Pavlovic 6-7, 6-2, 6-4, in the first of only two matches the Tigers would take from the Rebels in their 5-2 loss.

Going against her first dual match singles opponent, Goehl dropped just one game on her way to a two set sweep of Greyce Farias from Weber State (6-1, 6-0).

The Tigers will look for Goehl to continue her outstanding performance into Saturday, Jan. 30, when they open at home against Saint Marys College. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
