Pacific Men's Tennis: Pacific Adds Top Brazilian to Squad

    Jan 22, 2010
Coach Matt Lucas announced Friday that Ivan Garcia-Castro (Guarulhos, Sao Paulo, Brazil) will be joining Pacifics mens tennis team in the spring 2010 semester.

Ivan has extensive international experience with some great results in Futures tournaments around the world, said Lucas. He is the type of player that we are starting to attract to Pacific.

Garcia-Castro was ranked top five for his age in Brazil. According to the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), he has been ranked as high as 1,478 in the world during his career.

Lucas says Garcia-Castros current 1,503 ranking does not accurately reflect his talent, believing he will make an immediate impact on the program.

With his experience, I look for him to come in right away and be a top collegiate player, stated Lucas.

A true student-athlete, Garcia-Castro has an impressive academic background. He comes to Pacific after having maintained a 3.9 GPA throughout his high school career.

The Tigers open their spring season on the road Jan. 26 against Fresno State. Start time for the dual match is set to for 4 p.m. PST.
