Pacific Women's Tennis: Pacific Falls to No. 41 UNLV, 5-2

    Jan 23, 2010
The Pacific womens tennis team scratched at the door of upsetting No. 41 UNLV Saturday morning, but could not overcome a rally by the Rebels as they fell 5-2 on the second day of the UNLV Quad-Match.

UNLV jumped to an early 1-0 lead after sweeping doubles play against the Tigers. No. 60 ranked Jenifer Widjaja (Sao Roque, Sao Paulo, Brazil) fought back from a 6-4 first set loss to No. 50 Kristina Nedeltcheva to take set two 7-6. Nedeltcheva then rallied to take the final set of the No. 1 position match in a tie-breaker 1-0 (10-6) to put the Rebels up 2-0.

Freshman Christina Goehl (Karlsruhe, Germany) continued her stellar play for the Tigers rebounding from a first set loss to defeat Nives Pavlovic 2-1 (6-7, 6-2, 6-4) at the No. 2 position.

Playing in the three position against No. 44 Jana Albers, freshman Julia Hansen (Hamburg, Germany) dropped the first set 6-1 and played a tough set two but eventually fell 7-5.

The Rebels would take the next two matches to secure the win. Senior Sasha Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) defeated Rumyana Terzieva 2-1 (6-4, 2-6, 7-5) to close out the match.

Pacific concludes play at the Quad-Match on Sunday, Jan. 24 against New Mexico State. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
