    Pacific Tennis: Tigers Open Home Schedule in Double-Header

    In the first of four home double-headers this season, the Pacific mens and womens tennis programs open play on the Hal Nelson Tennis courts this Saturday, Jan. 30 against UC Davis and Saint Marys College. The men hit the courts early in their Big West opener against the visiting Aggies at 11 a.m. with the women following to face Saint Marys at 2 p.m.


    Pacific men are 0-1 after falling on the road to No. 46 ranked Fresno State 6-1, Jan. 27. The No. 71 ranked Tigers had a strong showing from junior No. 108 Artem Gramma (Krivoj, Roj, Ukraine) in the loss. He grabbed the teams only match win at the No. 1 singles position in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) over Mirko Zapletal.


    The women finished their weekend at the UNLV Quad-Match 2-1 after sweeping Weber State 7-0 and topping New Mexico State 6-1. Pacifics lone loss came at the hands of host No. 41 UNLV, 5-2. The Tigers will be looking to junior No. 60 Jenifer Widjaja (Sao Roque, Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman Christina Goehl (Karlsruhe, Germany) to continue their stellar play. Widjaja went 2-1 in the No. 1 position giving up just two games in the wins and took No. 50 Kristina Nedeltchva of the No. 41 Rebels to a deciding tie-breaker match before falling 6-4, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6).


    Goehl earned Big West Womens Tennis Athlete of the Week honors after going 3-0 at the No. 2 position, handing No. 41 UNLVs Nives Pavlovic her first loss of the season in three sets (6-7, 6-2, 6-4). She would only drop one other set on her way to outscoring her opponents 41 games to 20.
