    Women's Water Polo: Tigers Pick Up First Win of the Season, Defeat CSU East Bay 13-5

    In its final game of the day the Pacific women's water polo team defeated Cal State East Bay 13-5. With the win the Tigers improve to 1-2 on the season while the Pioneers fall to 0-1 on the year.


    The Pioneers opened the first quarter taking the 1-0 lead at the 5:44 mark, but the Tigers responded 14 seconds later on a goal from junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) to tie the game at 1-1. Pacific took a quick 4-1 lead on consecutive goals from Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) and Allison Kosich (Stockton, Calif.).


    The Tigers opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals from Myles and Tawarahara to take the 6-1 lead. The Pioneers cut the lead to two goals a the 1:45 and 0:32 spots, but Tawarahara responded ten seconds later with her third goal of the game to put Pacific up 7-3 entering the half.


    In the third quarter Tawarahara and Bridget Geck (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored consecutive goals to extend Pacific's lead to six. With 3:55 left on the clock Cal State East Bay found the back of the net to make it a 9-4 contest, but Tawarahara responded with 1:49 left in the quarter with her fifth goal of the game.


    Junior Melissa Loper (Napa, Calif.) opened the final quarter scoring her lone goal of the game at the 7:12 mark to put Pacific up by seven. The Tigers pulled away with a nine point lead on back-to-back goals from Myles and Meara McCarthy (Simsbury, Conn.). The Pioneers scored their final goal of the game with one second left on the clock for a final score of 13-5.


    Pacific was led by junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) who notched five goals in the game. Freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) finished the contest with 13 saves in the cage while Kailee Bucknum (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had one save in the goal.


    The Tigers continue action at the NorCal Tournament on Jan. 31 at 11:45 a.m. against No. 1 Stanford.
