    Women's Water Polo: Tigers Suffer Third Loss at NorCal Tournament, Fall To Stanford 19-8

    In the third day of the NorCal Tournament the Pacific women's water polo team was defeated by No. 1 Stanford, 19-8. With the loss the Tigers fall to 1-3 on the season while Stanford improves to 3-0 on the year.

    Stanford took an early 3-0 lead to open the first quarter on three consecutive goals. With 3:53 left in the quarter freshman Jasmine Myles (Auckland, New Zealand) put Pacific on the board to make it a 3-1 game. Myles struck again at the 1:35 mark with her second goal to cut the Cardinal lead in half. With 0:47 left on the clock Stanford regained the three point advantage but junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) put Pacific within two in the final 20 seconds of the quarter.

    In the second quarter the Cardinal quickly scored three consecutive goals for the 8-3 lead. Myles completed the hat trick with her third goal of the game at the 2:38 spot to cut Stanford's lead in half entering the half.

    With 6:36 on the clock to start the third quarter Stanford extended its lead to six, but Pacific responded 21 second later with a goal from Melissa Loper (Napa, Calif.) to make it a 10-5 game. Stanford gained the seven point advantage on three consecutive goals before Loper would score her second goal of the quarter. The Cardinal tallied their fifth goal of the quarter with 33 seconds left on the clock to take the 14-6 lead.

    In the final frame Stanford extended its lead to nine with 7:41 on the clock. Junior Allison King (Benicia, Calif.) scored her first goal of the game to make it a 15-7 contest. Sanford notched its three final goals of the game for the eleven point lead. Pacific ended the game with Tawarahara scoring a goal on a penalty shot for a final score of 18-9.

    Offensively the Tigers were led by freshman Jasmine Myles(Auckland, New Zealand) who scored three goals in the contest. In the cage for Pacific, freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) recorded five saves and three steals thru three quarters while junior Kailee Bucknum (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had one steal in the fourth quarter.

     

    Pacific concludes action at the NorCal Tournament today at 2:15 p.m. against Cal State Monterey Bay.
