    Pacific Swimming: 22 Tigers Make the Finals at the 2010 Speedo Champions Series

    Pacific Swimming traveled to Santa Clarita to participate in the 2010 Speedo Champions Series from July 21-26. Swimming as part of Tiger Aquatics Swim Club, the Tigers had 22 swimmers place in the finals with five reaching the podium for medals.

    Sponsored by USA Swimming, the Speedo Champions Series is an elite swim meet that features the top high school and collegiate swimmers from around the United States. The Series has nine stops scheduled for the summer of 2010 and each meet is sure to provide some memorable moments in an athlete's competitive career.

    Participating for the women were Jayme SwalinEllen BartonMallory McGowan and Allie Vetterlein. While Steven Woods, Zach Zlotoff, RJ Barton, David Hernandez, Nathan LeRoy,Chris BergTyler HannisClay Christy and Kevin Beyers participated for the men.

    On the men's side, three swimmers had top 10 finishes in the finals of several events. During the 100 Free finals Woods touched the wall with a time of 52.67 to earn the bronze medal for his third place finish. LeRoy claimed sixth place in the 200 Breast (2:24.42) and 100 Breast (1:06.35), while Zlotoff had a time of 16:25.86 in the 1500 Free to come in sixth. Christy's best performance of the weekend occurred during the 100 Free in which he placed 88th out of 240 swimmers with a time of 54.98. In the 200 Back Hannis finished 38 with a time of 2:14.70 while Berg came in 91st, touching the wall in 2:22.52.


    The men's 400 Medley Relay team comprised of Steven Woods,RJ Barton, Jordan Litz and David Hernandez had a time of 3:59.10 for the fifth place finish.

    Individually, Zlotoff finished 11th in the 800 Free with a time of 8:33.18, while LeRoy came in 19th in the 200 IM (2:11.50) and 18th in the 400 IM (4:42.36). Also having top 25 finishes in individual events were David Hernandez and Kevin Byers. Hernandez touched the wall in 58.01 in the 100 Fly to finish 23rd.

    At the Speedo Champion Series in Mount Hood, Ore., Byers finished 10th in the 100 Fly (56.78), 13th in the 100 Back (1:00.30), 17th in the 400 IM (4:39.03), 18th in the 200 IM (2:10.99) and 25th in the 200 Back (2:10.11).

    On the women's side the 400 Medley Relay team made up of Morgan McLain, Mallory McGowan and Ellen Barton touched the wall in 4:33.48 to come in 20th.

    Jayme Swalin had a pair of top 20 finishes in the 800 Free and 400 Free. Swalin came in 14th in the 800 Free, touching the wall in 9:16.28 while finishing 19th in the 400 Free with a time of 4:29.43. Also swimming the 800 Free was Ellen Barton, who finished 56th with a time of 9:46.65. Mallory McGowan finished the 100 Breast with a time of 1:14.83 for the 15th place spot. At the Speedo Champions Series in Mount Hood, Ore., Allie Vetterlein finished 68th in the 100 Fly (1:06.55), 78th in the 200 Fly (2:33.60) and 70th in the 200 IM (2:30.36)

    The Tigers return to competition at the USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, Calif., Aug. 4-7.
