Pacific Soccer: Three Tigers Earn OHANA Hotels and Resorts All-Tournament Team Honors

    Aug 23, 2010

Opening their 2010 season on the road in Hawai'i at OHANA Hotels and Resorts tournament, the Pacific soccer team finished 1-1 over the weekend against Hawai'i and Wagner. With their play at the tournament, senior Kylee Ah Choy (Mililani, Hawaii) and juniors Angelica Figueroa (Linden, Calif.) and Alex Topp (San Diego, Calif.) each earned all-tournament honors as selected at the conclusion of the tournament play.

The spearhead of Pacific's defense, Ah Choy earned all-tournament honors as the Tigers opened play with a 1-0 shutout of the host Rainbow Wahine on Friday, Aug. 20. In the game, the Tigers gave up 12 shots with only three on net. Against Wagner, Pacific's defense was nearly unbreakable as it relinquished just two total shots on goal to the Seahawks.

Joining Ah Choy as representatives on the all-tournament team from Pacific, Figueroa and Topp led the way in the midfield with Figueroa at the point of Pacific's attack while Topp played a critical role as the Tigers' defensive center mid while also providing an aerial attack. In Pacific's 1-0 win over Hawai'i, Figueroa set up the lone goal of the contest for the Tigers as she provided a one-touch pass in the middle of the box to sophomore Laura Hernandez (Seattle, Wash.) who slotted home the game-winner. For Topp, the junior midfielder took five shots in Pacific's three games with one on goal against Hawai'i.

Pacific will be back in action on Sunday, Aug. 29 when Sacramento State comes to Stagg Memorial Stadium for the Tigers' home opener. The game is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
