FREE Health Care to the Community

Mar 5, 2010

For the third consecutive year, University of the Pacific pharmacy students will provide more than $250 in free health care services to San Joaquin County residents on March 7.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., University of the Pacific's Vietnamese Cancer Awareness, Research & Education Society (VN CARES) will host a Health Fair at St. Luke's Church, 3847 N. Sutter St., in Stockton. The goal of this event is to celebrate diversity in San Joaquin County, while breaking through the cultural and language barriers.

"We hope to reach out to people of all ages, races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic classes," said Heidi Nguyen a doctoral student and VN CARES publicity officer. The Pacific Family Health Fair is an event for the entire family. "The children can enjoy numerous activities such as face painting, a scavenger hunt, and other educational games."

In hopes to raise awareness of the growing health issues, VN CARES is providing free health services to the entire community. Some of the services included are cholesterol, blood sugar, and bone density screenings, along with dental evaluations and medication consultations.

Sponsors of the event include: Rite Aid Pharmacy, Health Plan of San Joaquin, and the University of the Pacific's Academy of Student Pharmacists, who will also join in the day-long festivities.
