Pacific Women's Tennis: Tigers fall to No. 71 Cal Poly, 4-3

Mar 7, 2010
No. 73 Jenifer Widjaja (Sao Roque, Brazil) defeated No. 93 Suzie Matzenauer (4-6, 6-0, 6-4) at the No. 1 position to tie the Pacific womens tennis team with No. 71 Cal Poly Sunday morning. But despite winning at the top three positions, the Tigers could not pull out the win and dropped their second straight match in two days. Pacific is now 4-9 overall and 1-3 against Big West opponents.

We came close to the singles, said Head Coach Bob Chiene. We knocked off their top three and had a good match. Theyre a nationally ranked team and we fought with them tooth and nail.

Freshmen Christina Goehl (Karlsruhe, Germany) and Julia Hansen (Hamburg, Germany) earned Pacifics only other wins on the day. Playing out of the No. 2 position, Goehl defeated Brittany Blalock 6-2, 1-6, 7-5. Hansen defeated Steffi Wong in straight sets (6-1, 7-6) at the No. 3 position.

The Tigers have one more game left in their month long road trip. Pacific will face Fresno State in Fresno on March 20 at 6 p.m.
