Pacific Men's Tennis: No. 71 UNLV Too Much For Tigers

Mar 6, 2010
The Pacific mens tennis team fell to host No. 71 UNLV Saturday morning (5-2) in the second day of the UNLV Tournament. The Tigers dropped to 3-5 overall with the loss while the Rebels improved to a 7-6 overall record.

Junior Artem Gramma (Krivoj Roj, Ukraine) and newcomer Ivan Castro (Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil) won their third straight doubles match this season to improve to a 5-2 record. Their 8-3 win over Johannes Markel and Bernard Schoeman tied doubles play at 1-1 after Pacific dropped the No. 1 match.

The partnership of senior Renan Delsin (Santa Cruz da Conceicao, Brazil) and junior Fernando Ristow (Curitiba, Brazil) has been successful for the Tigers at the No. 3 position and Saturday was no different. The duo defeated Attila Toth and Kasper Konyves 8-3 to secure the doubles point for the Tigers heading into singles play.

But the ranked Rebels were too much for Pacific, who then dropped matches at the first four positions to lose the contest.

Senior Vegerd Veskimagi (Saku, Estonia) picked up the Tigers only singles win of the day by defeating Charlie Alvarado (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).

Pacific heads into the final day of the UNLV tournament facing No. 47 Hawaii, its second top 50 opponent this season. The Tigers dropped their match against now No. 28 Fresno State 6-1 back on Jan. 26. Match time against the Rainbow Warriors is set for 10 a.m.
