Women's Water Polo: No. 17 Pacific Splits Action At Pacific Invite, Fall To No. 3 California

Pacific's women's water polo team was defeated by No. 3 California 11-4, to split action at the Pacific Invitational. With the loss Pacific fell to 17-6 on the season.

In the first frame Pacific took the 1-0 lead at the 7:12 point on a goal from junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawai'i) but California countered at the 6:24 mark to tie the game at one goal apiece. The Golden Bears notched back-to-back goals at the 3:32 and 1:33 spots to take the 3-1 lead at the end of the first.

The Tiger offense was held scoreless in the second quarter while California expanded its lead to three on a goal with 3:34 on the clock.

Leading 4-1 entering the third quarter, California notched a goal with 7:39 left on the clock to make it a 5-1 contest, but Pacific's Tawarahara found the back of the net at the 6:00 mark to cut California's lead to three. With 2:32 remaining in regulation the Bears then took the 6-2 lead but Tawarahara again responded 32 seconds later cutting California's lead in half. California then closed out the quarter notching a goal with 0:34 on the clock to make it a 7-3 contest heading into the fourth quarter.

California opened the final frame tallying four consecutive goals at the 6:57, 6:11, 4:42, and 3:47 points to expand its lead to eight. The Tigers were unable to overcome the California's lead as Tawarahara notched Pacific's final goal with 2:24 remaining on the clock for an 11-4 final score.

Junior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) notched Pacific's four goals in the contest while freshman Brooke Millar (Auckland, New Zealand) recorded 12 saves in the cage for the Tigers.


The Tigers return to action March 27-28, as the Pacific travels to Santa Barbara, Calif., for the Gaucho Invite.
