Pacific softball: Senior Karie Wilson Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

May 7, 2010

Senior Karie Wilson (Glendale, Ariz.) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII First Team on Friday, May 6. The award was the first of her career and first since the duo of Gina Carbonatto (2004-07) and Jennifer Curtier (2004-07) earned the award in 2007.

The All-District Teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

For Wilson, the senior captain enters the final two weeks of her career having posted career-best numbers this season having posted a .291 batting average through 48 games. She has tallied 21 RBI and five home runs throughout the year while also adding a team-high .449 slugging percentage. As a senior, Wilson was enlisted to play first base as well as her primary position of catcher after injuries forced the Tigers to shift their defense early in the season.

Wilson will advance to the national ballot, with the Academic All-America Teams slated for a May 26th release date.
