Pacific Men's Waterpolo: No. 6 Pacific To Honor Seniors In Final Home Game Against No. 1 California
After spending nine consecutive weeks at the No. 7 position in national poll, Pacific's men's water polo jumped one spot to No. 6 in the latest poll released by the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
The Tigers jumped one spot after defeating No. 11 Santa Clara, 14-7, and No. 6 UC Santa Barbara, 8-7. This is the first time since the 2006 season the Tigers have been ranked at the No. 6 spot.
MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week
Freshman goalkeeper Alex Malkis (Yoqneam, Israel) earned his first MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week award on Tuesday, November 8, 2010. Malkis earned the award after tallying 26 saves, three steals and one assist in two games. He currently has 170 saves in 20 games for an 8.50 saves per game average, which is second in the MPSF.
Malkis had 11 saves in Pacific's 8-7 win over No. 6 UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, November 8, and helped the Tigers earn their second MPSF win on the season. He also had 15 saves in Pacific's 14-7 win over No. 11 Santa Clara on Friday, November 5. In Pacific's two contests over the weekend, opponents went a combined 2-for-18 on man up opportunities against Malkis.
Sophomore Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia) also earned the award on September 7, when he tallied 10 goals, one assist, one steal and eight exclusions drawn in four games at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational.
2010 Senior Class
Prior to the start of the game, seniors Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.), T.J. Friedman (Fairfield, Calif.), Jeff Hoornaert(Stockton, Calif.), Hector Lam Jr. (San Diego, Calif) and Austin Delgon (Houston, Texas) will be honored in a senior day ceremony. Following the Tigers contest against California, the 2010 Tiger squad will face off against the Alumni at 2 p.m.
Pacific hosts No. 1 California in the final home game of the 2010 season at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 13. The Tigers then travel to No. 3 Stanford for a noon contest on Sunday, November 14.
