    Pacific Men's Waterpolo: No. 7 Pacific Wins Second MPSF Game of the Season, Defeats No. 6 UC Santa Barbara, 8-7

    Following four ties and five lead changes, Pacific's men's water polo team defeated No. 6 UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) 8-7. With the win the Tigers improved to 14-8 (2-3 MPSF) on the season while the Gauchos fell to 10-8 (1-4 MPSF) on the year.

    In the first frame Balazs Erdelyi (Eger, Hungary) gave Pacific the 1-0 lead 17 seconds into the quarter when he tallied his first goal of the day, but UCSB's Zsombor Vincze tied the game at one all on the counter attack at the 7:27 mark. The Tigers regained the one point advantage when Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.) found the back of the net with 3:47 remaining on the clock; however the Gauchos tied the game at 2-2 at the 1:06 mark to end the quarter.

    With the game tied at two goals apiece at the start of the second quarter, the Gauchos took their first lead of the day on Vincze's second goal of the contest at the 7:06 mark. Pacific then tied the game when Erdelyi tallied his second goal of the contest at the 4:54 mark to make it a 3-3 game.

    Pacific kicked off the third quarter by regaining the one point advantage on a goal from Balasz Szabo (Budapest, Hungary), but for the third time in the contest UCSB tied the game with a goal at the 5:36 point. The Tigers then responded by taking the 6-4 lead on back-to-back goals from Szabo and Koning at the 3:59 and :52 points respectively. UCSB ended the quarter notching a goal with :10 remaining to the clock to make it a 6-5 game.

    In the final frame Pacific extended its lead to two at the 6:02 spot with Erdelyi's third goal of the contest. But the Gauchos countered at the 5:05 mark with a goal to come within one of the Tigers. Koning then completed the hat trick with 2:16 remaining on the clock when he scored the Tigers eighth goal of the game. UCSB concluded the contest with a goal at the 2:01 mark for an 8-7 final score.

    The Tigers were led by Tom Koning (Poway, Calif). And Balazs Erdelyi (Eger, Hungary) who completed the hat trick while Balazs Szabo (Budapest, Hungary) tallied two goals. Freshman Alex Malkis (Yoqneam, Israel) registered 11 saves in the cage for Pacific.

    Pacific will concluded their 2010 home schedule on Saturday, November 13 against California at 12 pm. The Tigers will honor seniors Jeff Hoornaert (Stockton, Calif.), T.J. Friedman (Fairfield, Calif.), Hector Lam Jr. (San Diego), Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.) and Austin Delong (Houston, Texas) as they will be making their final appearance at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.
