Pacific Golf: Up And Down Day Puts Pacific In Fourth At The Saint Mary's Invitational

    Oct 25, 2010

Taking part in their final tournament before hosting the Pacific Invitational next week, the Pacific golf team played the first two rounds at the Saint Mary's Invitational on Monday, October 25. After two rounds the Tigers sit in fourth place overall at +13.  The Tigers shot one-under in the afternoon session after going +12 in the morning.  The two day tournament, which is held at Bayonet and Blackhorse Golf Courses in Seaside, CA. and hosted by Saint Mary's College, was led by Notre Dame at -6, 16 strokes ahead of the host Gaels who sit in second after the first day's action.

For the Tigers, an up and down day on the course was led in round one by junior Danny Garcia who completed the first day at +5 for the first two rounds. The lefty posted a team-best +2, 74 in round one, tallying a pair of birdies on the Bayonet course through the first 12 holes of the morning before dropping back over par on the final six holes of the round. Changing courses to the Blackhorse course, Garcia struggled with inconsistent play as he posted seven pars in the round while carding four birdies and seven bogeys.

The move to a new course in the afternoon session was a welcome change for senior T.J. Bordeaux as he posted Pacific's best round of the day in round two with a -4, 68.  On the new course, Bordeaux was on fire as he posted five birdies with just one bogey early in his round.  With his resurgence, Bordeaux finished the day +4 after rebounding from a rough opening round of 80 on the Bayonet course.

Following Bordeaux's play, senior Patrick Kucich matched his fellow Tigers resurgence in the second round as he knocked of four strokes from his early round score by shooting an even-par, 72 at the Blackhorse course.  After a troubling start to his afternoon session that saw the senior post four bogeys in the first 10 holes, Kucich turned his day around with four birdies in the final seven holes of the day.

The Tigers will look to improve their overall standing and conquer the Bayonet course when round three commences on Tuesday, October 26 at 8:00 am. To follow the final round live online go to GolfStatResults.com
