Women's Soccer: Pacific's Jill Medigovich Named Big West Defensive Player of the Week

    Oct 18, 2010

Pacific women's soccer goalkeeper Jill Medigovich was named the Big West Conference Defense Player of the Week Monday after recording wins at Cal Poly and at UC Santa Barbara.  The redshirt senior from San Diego, Calif. (Cathedral Catholic) made six saves in a 2-1 win at UCSB Sunday and earned the shutout over Cal Poly on Friday.

On Friday, Medigovich recorded a pair of saves in the Tigers 1-0 victory at Cal Poly, earning her fourth shutout of the season. It was the 10th clean sheet of her career, which is the fourth most in Pacific history. Neither figure includes the two shutouts in which she split time between the pipes this season with freshman Tashia Long.

Medigovich tallied a season-high six saves in 99:49 in Pacific's 2-1 overtime win at UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, one shy of matching her career best in saves. She now ranks fifth in Pacific history with 96 saves.

With a 0.47 goals against average on the weekend, Medigovich lowered her season GAA to 0.81, which ranks second in the Big West this season. She also lowered her career goals against average to 0.85, which is first among all Pacific goalkeepers with 500 or more minutes.

In her last eight matches, Medigovich has allowed just two goals, for a 0.40 GAA, including 90 minutes of shutout action against a pair of ranked teams (No. 16 Cal and No. 23 UC Irvine).

Long Beach State senior midfielder Lindsay Bullock was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week, narrowly winning the award of Pacific junior forward Kristina Wavomba, who registered the game-winning goal against Cal Poly, the game-tying goal in the 81st minute against UC Santa Barbara to force overtime, and then the game-winning assist on Angelica Figueroa's 110th minute game-winner. Bullock tallied three goals in a 5-2 blowout win over Cal State Fullerton.
