    Pacfic Men's Water Polo: Tigers Fall To No. 3 California, 15-3

    Taking to the pool for their first game of the day, Pacific's men's water polo team suffered a tough 15-3 loss to No. 3 California. With the loss the Tigers fall to 7-4 on the year while the Golden Bears improved to 9-2 on the season.

    In the first frame Pacific was held scoreless while California tallied four goals to take the 4-0 lead. The Bears then extended their lead to by two in the second quarter to make it a 6-0 contest entering the half.

    California kicked off the third quarter tallying three goals to take the 9-0 lead before junior Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.) put Pacific on the board at the 4:12 mark to cut the Bears lead to eight. California closed out the quarter notching two additional goals at the 1:10 and :09 spots for the 10 point advantage.

    To start the final quarter California scored three consecutive goals at the 7:10, 5:56 and 5:05 spots but Koning and sophomore Jason Wensley (Concord, Calif.) countered with goals at the 4:37 and 3:14 respectively to make it a 14-3 game. The Bears then closed out the game tallying their fifteenth goal of the contest with 2:23 remaining on the clock.

    The Tigers were led by junior Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.) who tallied a pair of goals while sophomore Jason Wensley (Concord, Calif.) found the back of the net once. Freshman Alex Malkis (Yoqneam, Israel) had three saves in the first quarter while junior Joey Frantz (Chicago, Ill.) recorded four saves thru three quarters in the cage for Pacific.

    Pacific takes on No. 8 Long Beach State at 1:20 p.m. in the seventh place game.
