Pacific Men's Water Polo: Tigers Travel to NorCal Tournament, Remain No. 7 in CWPA Poll
Following a week hiatus Pacific men's water polo team returns to action this weekend at the Northern California Tournament, hosted by California.
With 16 teams participating in this year's NorCal Tournament, the two day event will be held at Spieker Aquatics Center in Berkeley, Calif., and Diablo Valley College (DVC) in Pleasant Hill, Calif. The Tigers open the tournament against No. 10 Long Beach State University (LBSU) at 9:20 a.m. at Diablo Valley College.
The last time Pacific took to the pool against LBSU, the Tigers upset the 49ers, 9-8, to earn the No. 8 seed in the 2009 MPSF tournament. The Tigers trailed 8-6 entering the final quarter when Tom Koning(Poway, Calif.), Joey Gullikson (Sonoma, Calif.) and Lance Morrison (Fairfield, Calif.) scored uninterrupted goals to secure the win for Pacific.
Depending on the outcome of the game against Long Beach, the Tigers will face off against No. 2 UCLA or No. 19 Air Force at 1:20 pm or 2:40 pm at DVC.
Pacific in the News
Sophomore Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia) earned his first MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week award on Tuesday, Sept. 7 following Pacific's 4-0 showing at the Triton Invitational. During the tournament Tomasevic tallied 10 goals, one assist, one steal and eight exclusions drawn in four games. Tomasevic was also featured on ESPNU's Capital One Impact Performance of the Week, which highlights outstanding athletic achievements by student-athletes in sports other than football and college basketball.
Head Coach James Graham also sat down with Trevor Freeman of NCAA.com, who writes weekly feature articles for the men's and women's water polo pages. Graham discussed his 2010 Tiger squad and what it takes for the Pacific to compete in the MPSF and for an NCAA at-large bid.
