    Pacific Men's Water Polo: Tigers Finish Triton Invitational Undefeated, Rout No. 19 Air Force 10-5

    Appearing in their final game of the day, Pacific's men's water polo team defeated No. 19 Air Force 10-5. With the win the Tigers improved to 4-0 on the season while the Falcons fell to 1-2 on the year.

    At the 5:49 mark in the first quarter Air Force jumped out to an early 1-0 lead however sophomore Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia) responded 54 seconds later to tie the contest at the one goal apiece. Pacific then took the 3-1 lead on back-to-back goals from juniorLance Morrison (Fairfield, Calif.) and freshman Balazs Erdelyi (Eger, Hungary) at the 2:07 and :58 marks respectively. The Falcons cut Pacific's lead to one with :41 remaining on the clock to end the quarter.

    In the second frame the Tigers were able to expand their lead to four on goals from juniorDaniel Lungu (Netanya, Israel), Morrison and Erdelyi, while holding Air Force scoreless to end the half.

    Pacific led 6-2 entering the third frame but Air Force notched two consecutive goals at the 4:15 and 1:31 points to cut the Tigers' lead to two. The Tigers regained the three point lead when Erdelyi completed the hat trick on a 5-meter penalty shot with 1:18 remaining on the clock to make it a 7-4 contest.

    In the final frame junior Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.), Morrison and freshman Patrick Daley(Mechanicsburg, Pa.) tallied uninterrupted goals at the 4:37, 3:04 and 2:31 spots to put Pacific up 10-4. Air Force then closed out the contest notching its fifth and final goal with :21 remaining in regulation for a 10-5 final score.

    Pacific was led by junior Lance Morrison (Fairfield, Calif.) and freshman Balazs Erdelyi (Eger, Hungary) who notched three goals apiece for the Tigers while freshman Alex Malkis(Yoqneam, Israel) registered eight saves in the cage for Pacific.

    "This was a great opportunity to come together as a team and see where we stack up against the competition this season," stated head coach James Graham. "Going 4-0 is always great. This weekend was very big with wins against top-20 ranked opponents. We look forward to NorCals in two weeks and we are going to work hard to be ready."

    The Tigers return to action Saturday, Sept. 18 in Berkeley, Calif., at the NorCal Invitational hosted by California.
