    Pacific Men's Water Polo: No. 10 Pacific Perfect in First Day of Triton Invitational, Down La Verne 13-4

    In the second game of the day, Pacific's men's water polo team defeated La Verne 13-4. With the win the Tigers improved to 2-0 while the Leopards fell to 0-2 on the season.

    The Tigers opened the first frame taking a quick 2-0 lead on back-to-back goals from sophomore Goran Tomasevic (Split, Croatia) and senior Austin Delong (Houston, Texas) at the 5:22 and 4:33 spots respectively. The Tigers then extended their lead to three at the 2:14 mark when junior Lance Morrison (Fairfield, Calif.) found the back of the net. The Leopards then cut Pacific's lead to one with consecutive goals at the 1:11 and :45 marks to make it a 3-2 contest.

    Leading 3-2 entering the second quarter, the Tigers gained a six point lead on goals from juniors Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.), Lance Morrison (Fairfield, Calif.) and Daniel Lungu(Netanya, Israel), and sophomores Balazs Szabo (Budapest, Hungary) and Tomasevic. While taking the 8-2 lead, Pacific's defense held La Verne scoreless during the frame.

    Entering the third quarter, Pacific's offense continued its scoring attack with back-to-back goals from freshman Patick Daley (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Koning at the 7:31 and 5:03 spots. After being held scoreless throughout most of the first half, the Leopards found the back of the net with 4:49 remaining on the clock to make it a 10-3 game. However Pacific responded with three consecutive goals from Koning, Lungu and junior Neil Bykerk (Palos Verdes, Calif.) to give the Tigers the 13-3 lead.

    Pacific was held scoreless in the final frame while La Verne notched its final goal of the contest for a 13-4 final score.

    Pacific was led by junior Tom Koning (Poway, Calif.) who notched three goals for the Tigers while junior Joey Frantz (Chicago, Ill.) recorded 12 saves in the cage for Pacific.

    The Tigers returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 10:45 a.m. against host No. 11 UC San Diego. Pacific will then conclude tournament play against No. 19 Air Force at 2:15 p.m.
