    Woman's Water Polo: No. 19 Pacific Hosts No. 13 Long Beach State And No. 10 UC Irvine

    Pacific's women's water polo team (16-10, 0-2 Big West) returns to Chris Kjeldsen Pool for the second week of Big West (BW) action to take on No. 13 Long Beach State and No. 10 UC Irvine, after spending six consecutive weeks on the road for competition.

    Big West Opening Weekend Recap
    During the first weekend of BW play the Tigers dropped a 9-5 decision to then ranked No. 14 UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, April 2. In the contest seniors Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) and Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) found the back of the net twice while freshman Chelsea Weir (Seal Beach, Calif.) scored once. Freshman Michele Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Canada) recorded 11 saves in the cage.

    Taking on No. 17 Cal State Northridge (CSUN) on Sunday, April 3, the Tigers took a 6-4 lead heading into the half which included a pair of goals from Quertermous and Mandy King (Benicia, Calif.). During the third frame the Matadors rallied to take the 8-6 lead with six goals from the 7:33 to 1:30 spots. Down 10-7 at the start of the fourth the Tigers rallied with a pair of goals to put Pacific within one of the Matadors with a little under five minutes remaining in regulation, but CSUN countered with its eleventh goal at the 3:19 mark to put the game out of reach for Pacific. Against the Matadors the Tigers were paced by Quertermous who scored four goals while Mandy King scored a trio of goals for the Tigers. Relton tallied 10 saves in the cage against CSUN to bring her weekend total to 21 saves.

    Collegiate Water Polo Association
    In the latest poll released by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), the women's water polo team dropped one spot to No. 19 after dropping a pair of games during the opening weekend of Big West Action. Pacific previously spent two weeks as the No. 18 team in the nation after winning seven contests in a two week period.

    Pacific plays host to No. 13 Long Beach State on Saturday, April 9, at 12 pm. The Tigers then host No. 10 UC Irvine at 12 pm on Sunday, April 10.
