Pacific Food Pantry: Donations and Availability

Dec 8, 2011

A food pantry for students, faculty and staff is now open in the Cowell Wellness Center. The Pacific Food Pantry was started in an effort to provide temporary assistance for the Pacific community. Pacific Health Services has noticed an alarming number of students whose health problems are directly related to not having access to enough food. In these trying economic times, students aren't excluded from the burden of a limited income. Food Insecurity is a very real problem in the San Joaquin Valley where a large percentage of our students come from. Having access to a pantry on campus ensures that everyone has food until they can secure a more permanent solution. This pantry will also be open to faculty and staff as we know there is also need within this population.

The pantry will be open from 8AM-6PM, Monday through Friday and is accessible to the Pacific community with an ID card/988#. Individuals are able to use the pantry once a week and fill up one grocery's bag worth of food.

We are also taking donations for the pantry. Donations can be dropped off at the Cowell Wellness Center, Morris Chapel, or the gift box located in the DUC lobby until Dec. 21st. We thank you in advance for your donation and willingness to support the Pacific Food Pantry. Since Pacific is always thinking 'Beyond Our Gates,' we will donate a percentage of all non-perishable items to the Emergency Food Bank in Stockton.

While we accept all non-perishable items we are in greater need of peanut butter, cereals, canned tuna and chicken, and soups.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
