Description: This session will address institutional strategies to increase recruitment, retention and advancement of faculty of color through programs that place contributions to diversity, equity and access at the heart of the academic mission. The session will address policy initiatives such as the University of California Academic Senate Diversity Statement and the 2005 amendments to the policy on appointment and advancement to recognize faculty contributions to diversity in the academic rewards process. The session also will address program initiatives such as (1) the UC Berkeley Initiative for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, which supports faculty diversity through faculty mentoring, diversity-related research and new courses integrating diversity into the curriculum; and (2) the UC President's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program and faculty hiring incentive which has demonstrated success recruiting and retaining faculty in all fields whose research, teaching and service will contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education.
