    Women's Waterpolo: No. 19 Pacific Defeats California Baptist, 8-7

    Returning home after a quick east coast trip, Pacific's women's water polo team defeated California Baptist 8-7. With the win the Tigers improved to 7-3 on the season.

    California Baptist kicked off the first frame taking the 1-0 lead at the 5:19 but the Tigers responded on the counter attack 22 seconds later on a goal from senior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii). Pacific then took the 2-1 lead at the 4:05 spot on a goal from Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) however the Lancers countered with 44 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at two all to end the quarter.

    The Lancers then took the 3-2 lead 22 seconds into the second quarter, but Pacific responded on Mandy King's (Benicia, Calif.) first goal of the game at the 7:28. The Lancers regained the one point advantage at the 6:09 mark; however Pacific found the back of the net to tie the contest for the fourth time at 4-4 on a goal from Elise Martin (Calgary, AB, Canada). Cal Baptist then tallied two consecutive goals for the two point lead, but the Tigers remained within one of the Lancers on King's second goal of the day. The Lancers then closed out the half notching a goal at the :46 spot for the 7-5 lead.

    In the third frame Melissa Loper (Napa, Calif.) and Siobhan Larsen (Mundelein, Ill.) scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at seven goals a piece while the Tiger defense shutout the Lancers.

    With the game tied at seven all heading into the final frame, Tawarahara found the back of the net at for the second time to give Pacific the 8-7 lead.

    Pacific was paced by Mandy King (Benicia, Calif.) and Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) who scored two goals apiece. Freshman Michele Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Candada) had nine saves in the cage for Pacific.

    Pacific hosts No. 1 Stanford on Sunday, February 20 at 1 pm.
