    Women’s Center of San Joaquin County and Pacific’s Women’s Resource Center to Offer Programs on Healthy Relationships

    The Women's Center of San Joaquin County and University of the Pacific's Women's Resource Center are collaborating to develop a Healthy Relationships Peer Education Program at Pacific. In the program, students will be trained to lead discussions and give lectures on how to create and maintain a healthy relationship.

    The program is being made possible by a $10,000 grant awarded to Pacific by the beauty and fashion boutique "mark" as part of its "m.powerment" Healthy Relationship Peer Educator Mentor Program, which is managed by the Avon Foundation for Women.

    "We are ecstatic that we were selected as one of 23 awardees from more than 100 applicants," said Corrie Martin, director of Pacific's Women's Resource Center. "This new program will foster domestic violence awareness and education on Pacific's campus."

    Corrie Martin was selected as the Women's resource Center's founding director in November 2010.

    The program will launch in Fall 2011. Curriculum and training will be developed with the help of the region's leading provider of services and resources for survivors of domestic and violence and sexual assault, The Women's Center of San Joaquin County. Ten students will be selected for the initial training and to help expand the program by running workshops, discussions and other activities that promote healthy relationships.

    In 2004 the Avon Foundation launched Speak Out Against Domestic Violence to support domestic violence awareness, education and the prevention programs, as well as direct services for victims' and their families. The "m.powerment " program is a philanthropic initiative committed to breaking the cycle of dating abuse and partner violence.
