    Pacific Women's Water Polo Defeats Santa Clara

    Facing regional rival Santa Clara at the Spartan Invitational on Saturday, January 29, the Tigers cruised to an impressive 16-4 victory for their first win of the 2011 season. Pacific improved to 1-1 with the win.

    In the win over the Broncos the Tigers got off to a fast start, outscoring the opposition 5-0 in the first period. With the earlier advantage the Tigers continued their barrage on the net against Santa Clara over the next two periods, netting six more goals while giving up just three. Leading 11-3 heading into the final period, Pacific bookended its stellar performance with five more goals in fourth frame of action to complete the 16-4 win over the Broncos.

    Individually, the Tigers were led by freshman Elise Martin who posted four goals in the victory. Following closely behind was senior Mandy King who threw in three more scores while the Loper twins, Jessica and Melissa each put in two goals. Six other Tigers added a single goal in the win.

    Pacific will be back in action on Sunday, January 30, when they begin final day action at the Spartan Invitational with a tilt against the tournament host Spartans of San Jose State. The game is scheduled for 11:30 am.
